Something starts between Dovey and this boy named Wilson Brown. I recommend for people to read it because it's a really good book, I really liked it. Dovey Coe is an interesting book. She lives in a wonderful place called Katie's Knob with her loving family. It was the perfect combination. Every day seems quite perfect for Dovey, until an old friend of her sister, named Parnell Caraway Decides to come back into their lives to try an re-candle a flame with Caroline. But Caroline's not the only one who can get a guy in the Coe family.
I thought it was quite interesting because it had a bit of romance, suspense and mystery. I certainly did change my mind about the book.
The setting of the story takes place during a warm summer. Personally when I checked out this book I wasn't that excited to read it.
It's about a 13 year old girl named Dovey Coe. So after the summer ends, there is a very important case to be solved, of who murdered Parnell Caraway.
Her mom, dad, sister Caroline, and brother Amos.
Problem is there never was one.
Although we don't find out until the end how Parnell actually dies, we know, without a doubt that tough and sweet Dovey Coe could not have done it. There's not a lot I can tell you about this book that hasn't already been said. This is a great read from a great author. No matter how bad it looks, we, the reader, have faith in her and cheer for her until the end. Francis O'Roark Dowell does a fantastic job building the character of Dovey Doe. Right from the first sentence the reader gets to know Dovey personally.
Oh, did they dislike Parnell. Dovey is an irresistible character who you love and root for. Each year I find a girl in my class that has a bit of Dovey's spirit in her. I hightly recommend this read. Great to teach the inequality of social economic class in America. My kids loved reading it aloud with a mountain accent.
She made it clear on many occasions how she felt about Parnell Caraway. There were many surprises in this story that kept me on the edge of my seat; such as when Paris Caraway surprises Dovey at her house with the news of her `lost dog'.
I think that this book is a great read for everyone. I would love to read another of this author's books because her style of writing is excellent.
Dovey Coe speaks her mind. I could not put Dovey Coe down; I did not know what Dovey would say next or what was coming.
She'll tell you how she feels without thinking twice on the matter.
I highly recommend this book for many reasons.
I hated Parnell Caraway as much as the next person, but I didn't kill him."Unfortunately for Dovey, everyone thinks she did. Dovey Coe is an excellent quick read, a fun book for anyone. One aspect of the novel I found intriguing is its authenticity and its realism. In Dovey Coe by Frances O'Roark Dowell, Dovey is a twelve-year-old girl living in the mountains of North Carolina with her family. And finally, Amos, Dovey's deaf older brother, comes to appreciate Dovey's loyalty and help while Dovey recognizes his own.One more characteristic of the novel that I found exceptional is its interesting and fast-moving plot. "My name is Dovey Coe and I reckon it don't matter if you like me or not.
Dowell's Dovey Coe is powerful historical fiction, and Dovey will keep you hooked until the very end. Even bystanders and minor characters come to life and become real to the reader. Ms. Soon, however, Parnell is found dead, with Dovey and incriminating evidence in the room with him.
In the end, Dovey and her lawyer find the perfect proof, strong enough to sway the judge to close the case. I'm here to lay the record straight, to let you know them folks saying I done a terrible thing are liars. And near the end, the story accelerates to a lightning pace as Dovey's future comes into the hands of her young lawyer Mr. First of all, Dovey is always doing something, whether it be going into the woods to look for quartz or searching for interesting things at the market. Dovey, who always speaks her mind, learns that sometimes that isn't the best option, especially during the murder trial, in which one wrong word could send her to a girl's detention center for twenty years. Caroline, Dovey's older sister, slowly realizes that her looks aren't the only reason she's worth something.
Harding at the trial. Also, the author's well-implemented ability to include everyday events without straying from the plot adds a believability factor to the story.
You immediately attach to Dovey, who always has something to say with a unique way of saying it. Wade H.
Undoubtedly my favorite part of the book is the likeable characters it involves. I aim to prove it, too.
Later, the plot begins to thicken as Parnell worms his way into the Coes' lives. Finally, with the Coes being a common, ordinary family, readers can easily relate to their trials and tribulations.Another feature of the book that I enjoyed is the characters that grow throughout the story.
When the richest, snobbiest bachelor in Indian Creek, Parnell Caraway, begins to court her sister, outspoken Dovey has something to say about it. For instance, Dovey and her family are much more believable when they speak with their slight country twang.
